Stanley forces you to face the inevitable fact that as a child of God, parent, and worker, you must “cheat” somewhere. While “none of them should be neglected…, there’s just not enough time” for them all. He then proceeds to explain the order of precedence that God has set. Additionally, he clarifies on what comes first for a preacher who is doing God’s work for a job.
Afterwards, he discusses strategies for solving your marriage problem. I was impressed that he made up for his lack of experience (in the area of asking for fewer hours at work) by using the story of Daniel. He showed that when Daniel was faced with a choice he did the following: made up his mind, made a plan, and set-up a test. Stanley does not make it look like it is going to be easy. He presents the truth and makes sure that you are prepared for temporary disappointment. However, he does assure you that in the end, you will not regret making the right decision.
Do not let this book sit on the shelf and collect dust. It is a book that one should read to ensure you are not setting your marriage up for a collision with your job. Additionally, if that collision occurs, this book will provide hope and assist in your decision making. I honestly believe that this book could indeed save a marriage.
